Pte. Walter Fredrick Siewertsen, 16387

Private Walter Fredrick Siewertsen joined the Grenadier Guards 8th April 1913 aged 19 & 4 months in Chatham and was posted to the 2nd Battalion 3rd Company. He was based at Chelsea just before the outbreak of WW1, but he got into a little trouble with a L/cpl and was Court Martialed and received 112 day detention with stoppages. At the outbreak of war he was part of the BEF and mobilized 12th August 1914. He was killed in Action 7th November 1914 just South of Ypres in Zillebeke. He is buried in Zillebeke Church yard with a named head stone. The Church yard contains only a small number of war graves mainly officers from the Foot Guards and Household Cavalry from the early part of the war. He received the 1914 Star with Clasp, The British War Medal & Victory Medal.  Lest not forget the sacrifice made by Private Siewertsen and other Guardsmen while serving with No. 3 Co., 2nd Batt., Grenadier Guards.
